ANSI Standard 188 Legionellosis

EMCOR Government Services' Alan Spence, PE, Director, Facilities Solutions Group, was an instrumental team member in a 10 year effort resulting in new guidance to minimize the risk of Legionnaire's Disease in Building Water Systems.

Partnering with the CDC's Clarissa Lucas and a world renowned microbiologist, Janet Stout, the resultant standard has been published by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) as ASHRAE / ANSI Standard 188 Legionellosis: Risk Management for Building Water Systems.

This long effort culminated in an essential document for anyone involved in design, construction, installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and service of centralized building water systems and components.

Alan served as a Professional Engineer and facility operator who provided real world input to ensure that proposed requirements were realistic and can be met without undue hardship for the owner/operator; he was also instrumental in approving the document for publication.
